How to begin:
Initials consultations can be scheduled by emailing saif@utdallas.edu with a project description and general timeline for start date. One imaging session will be allowed for free to assess the experimental outcomes for future use. Training can then be requested on Research Core Facilities with a valid cost center number. If experiments have been conducted with the instruments in the past (i.e. before Jan 1st 2024), users can request direct access to the resource scheduler if instrument experience is appropriate for self-service.
Staff service is also available (i.e. SAIF core runs the imaging sessions) if self service is not
warranted. This can be requested by filling out the following form:
Instruments can be used for in vitro and in vivo imaging, such as for characterizing a contrast agent alone or comparing live animal perfusion results to excised tissue. IACUC protocol must be provided to begin imaging. If unavailable, SAIF will work accordingly with our pending IACUC protocol approval for basic imaging. Additionally, IBCC approval must be shown if working with potentially biohazardous materials (e.g. rDNA/sDNA, infectious materials, biological toxins, or hazardous chemicals). Refer to the Institutional Biosafety and Chemical Safety Committee (IBCC) for more information. When choosing an imaging modality, it is important to consider the desired outcomes and technical specifications of the instruments:
Anesthesia:
The core is equipped with anesthesia systems at each imaging station. Unless special request is needed, imaging sessions are conducted with a mixture of isoflurane and medical oxygen in accordance with OSHA guidelines. Users are required to provide their own isoflurane bottles for imaging sessions. It is recommended to begin with small amounts depending on the length of the imaging session. Users will be trained on operating the anesthesia system as part of the imaging training.
